I doubt I will be tackling Ulysses or Finnegan’s Wake anytime soon or ever. When I was in college and Uni I was all about contemporary literature Marquez, Reverte, Murakami and I missed many of the “must read” authors.

I believe Joyce was trying to stress the cyclical patterns of Dubliner’s lives, but it wasn’t enough. I feel like if I had grown up in RoI or was living there when this book was written then I would be able to get this collection of short stories but instead I just wanted it to be over. I loved this in “The Mother”: Not dublinses after her death, Joyce was traveling again.
